Ceramic works by WATCH Resources artists on display
— Submitted by Twyla Olsen
Aloft Art Gallery in downtown Sonora has a new collection of handcrafted ceramic artwork created by artists from WATCH Resources. This vibrant display highlights the creativity and talent of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who participate in WATCH’S ceramics program.
The collection includes glazed ceramic fish, nature-inspired pieces, and seasonal works — each one shaped, painted, and finished by the artists themselves. Every piece reflects hours of skill-building, creativity, and expressive exploration supported by WATCH’S art instructors.
For many WATCH artists, working with clay provides more than an artistic outlet — it offers therapeutic benefits, improved fine-motor abilities, and a joyful space for personal expression. Their partnership with Aloft Art Gallery gives artists the opportunity to share their work with the broader community and earn income from their art.
Visitors to Aloft can view and purchase these unique ceramics during regular gallery hours. Proceeds return directly to the artists and help support ongoing art programming at WATCH.
This special display celebrates inclusion, artistic achievement, and the power of community collaboration.
WATCH Resources is dedicated to supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by fostering independence, community integration, creativity, and employment opportunities. The WATCH Art Guild provides artists with opportunities to explore ceramics, mosaics, painting, and more.
The gallery is at 105 S. Washington St. and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
