Planet Earth: Dynasties

This six-episode follow-up to the acclaimed first season provides more fresh insights into the secret lives of some of the most fascinating animals on Earth, over an extended period of time. The season premiere, “Puma,” opens in the wild and remote highlands of Patagonia, where a solitary mother puma called Rupestre strives to raise four cubs, her largest litter yet. Hunting to feed her young forces Rupestre to brave hostile natural forces like white-out blizzards in which winds approach 100 mph. Her more serious threats, though, come from other pumas.

Sunday

5 p.m. on KXTV American Idol

As the competition wraps up its 20th season overall (and its fifth on ABC), it’s been marked by some aspects of years past, such as contestants leaving early. However, one judge is enjoying a year that proves the worth of sticking with a music career, since Lionel Richie has The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song and (soon) induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Luke Bryan and Katy Perry also cast their final votes on the remaining contenders, and per “Idol” finale tradition, expect other bigname stars to appear. Ryan Seacrest is, of course, the host.

In the season finale “Rock, A Bye, Baby,” Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) frets about the status of her relationship with Lucas (Chris McNally), while Bill (Jack Wagner) helps

Gowen (Martin Cummins) through the painful fallout of the mine explosion. Elsewhere, Rosemary and Lee (Pascale Hutton, Kavan Smith) receive some important news. Kevin McGarry also stars.

NCIS

This long-running crime procedural closes out its 19th season with a taut finale called “Birds of a Feather,” which sees Agent Parker (Gary Cole) being framed for murder. Based strictly on the evidence, things don’t look good, so the NCIS team puts their jobs and possibly even their lives on the line to buy time as they scramble to uncover the truth. Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen and Diona Reasonover also star. CBS has picked up “NCIS” for Season 20.

Don’t Forget the Lyrics!

Actress Niecy Nash hosts this new reboot of a vintage game show that challenges contestants to remember the lyrics to some of the most popular songs ever, but with a million dollars at stake. Their fortune in the game depends on their musical memory, as a successful result with each song takes them one step closer to that potential million-dollar jackpot. After they finish nine songs correctly, they take their turn at a No. 1 musical hit that could yield the big prize, if they “don’t forget the lyrics.”

This Is Us

Well, we can’t say series creator Dan Fogelman didn’t warn us. Periodically during this Emmy-winning drama’s run, Fogelman has told journalists the time-hopping saga of the Pearson clan will span six seasons, which end tonight in a series finale that’s bound to tug at the heartstrings. Just as predictably, Fogelman is playing it close to the vest when it comes to story revelations, although star Milo Ventimiglia — who plays patriarch Jack Pearson — promises “It’s truly, truly going to deliver.” Sterling K. Brown and Mandy Moore also star.

10:01 p.m. on KCRA

New Amsterdam

The season finale, “I’ll Be Your Shelter,” finds a massive hurricane barreling down on New York, so Bloom (Janet Montgomery) and the hospital team scramble to get emergency preparations in place. Meanwhile, Max and Helen (Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman) plan an intimate wedding when she returns from London, and Reynolds (Jocko Sims) finally reaches his estranged father. Elsewhere, Iggy and Martin (Tyler Labine, recurring guest star Mike Doyle) reach a crossroads in their marriage. This medical drama will return for its fifth and final season.

Wednesday

9 p.m. on KXTV

The American Rescue Dog Show Rob Riggle and Joe Tessitore (“Holey Moley”) host this preeminent canine competition that features rescued doggie companions strutting their stuff and competing for a number of “best in” titles — in addition to stealing viewers’ hearts on a felonious scale. Categories featured in this two-hour special include Best in Underbite, Best in Snoring and Best in Belly Rubs, among others. The winner in each category will be honored with a $10,000 donation to a local animal rescue organization, with an additional $10,000 donation made in honor of the overall winner.

Grey’s Anatomy

The two-hour finale to Season 18 opens as Grey Sloan Memorial is hit with a blood shortage, so the staff sets up a voluntary donation center. Meanwhile, Nick (Scott Speedman) asks Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) to assist him with a patient, and Winston (Anthony Hill) wrestles with the relationship he has with his brother. Owen’s (Kevin McKidd) actions to help his fellow veterans come to light. Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. also star. This series, the longest-running primetime medical drama in TV history, will be back for Season 19.

Riley).
