‘Granny’ basketball team plans fundraising games
• WHAT: Columbia Gold Diggers basketball vs. Rootin’tootin’teachers and Grampy Militia
• WHEN: 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday, June 4
• WHERE: Columbia Elementary School gymnasium, 2540 Parrotts Ferry Road, Columbia
• COST: $3 per person
The Columbia Gold Diggers, California’s first “Granny Basketball Team,” will play two games on Sunday, June 4, at Columbia Elementary School.
The Diggers will take on the Rootin’ Tootin’ Teachers at 2 p.m. and the Grampy Militia at 3 p.m. In addition to the unique, entertaining and sometimes hilarious games, a silent auction will be held for 25 tons of gravel donated by Blue Mountain Minerals. Spectators can also purchase raffle tickets to win one or more prizes from many Columbia Merchants. Prizes include stagecoach rides, ice cream, photos, tickets to Stories in Stone, dinners, assorted gift baskets, etc.
Admission is a $3 raffle ticket donation (Purchasers of raffle tickets must be present to win).
The event is a fundraiser for the Gold Diggers who plan to participate in the National Granny Basketball Tournament in Iowa on July 14 and 15.
