The fire, starting early in the afternoon, was said by State Forestry officials, to have been caused by a carelessly thrown cigarette from a passing automobile.

All State Forestry fire suppression crews and equipment of the county were thrown on the fire line, and assistance was given by a State crew from Altaville. The fire line was being patrolled Monday morning by about twenty boys from the Preston School of Industry in Ione.

Although the fire burned close to a number of the homes in the area, efforts of the firefighters succeeded in stopping the advance of the flames on any of them.

Preparations for forming a Lions Club among the businessmen of Columbia State Park will culminate Wednesday evening with an organization meeting to be held at the Columbia Grammar School at 7:00 p.m. o’clock. The meeting will be under the direction of James Warden and Cliff Mckay, who have been active in the formation of the club.

Guests at the meeting will include members of the Sonora Lions Club, which is acting as the sponsor; and visitors from the Angels Camp and Stockton Lions Clubs.
