Jumping frogs and carnival rides come to Angels

The Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee will be back in full force this weekend with carnival rides, junior livestock, jumping frogs, the Calaveras Idol competition and more.

“Dancing with the Steers” is the theme of this year's event, which will be held Thursday through Sunday at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds off Highway 49 in Angels Camp.

The fair also will include the Sierra Foothills Wine Show with competitors from Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mariposa, Nevada, Placer, Sierra and Tuolumne counties. A rodeo will be offered on Saturday, and a destruction derby on Sunday.

Live music, with performers including Jack Ingram and Kayla Ray, will be offered throughout the weekend, along with exhibits, food and craft vendors and more.

The four-day event will be heralded with the 75th annual Youth Parade at 10 a.m. Thursday on Main Street in Angels Camp. The parade is presented by the City of Angels Camp, Soroptimist International of Calaveras County, and the fair board.

Tickets for adults range from $10 for Thursday to $50 for an all-fair pass if purchased in advance online at www.frogtown. org. Kids 12 and younger get in for free on Thursday, and cost $10 every other day if tickets are purchased in advance.

Carnival rides cost $40 for an all-you-can-ride wristband, $25 for 20 tickets, $50 for 50 tickets. Each ride takes four to five tickets, and youth must be at least 36 inches tall for most rides.
