Escalon Historical Museum

1630 Main St., Escalon • 209-838-8070 escalon.historical@att.net • escalonhistoricmuseum.org

The Escalon Historical Society was formed in 1989 by a group of citizens concerned with the preservation of Escalon’s history for future generations. The society runs and maintains the Escalon Historical Museum which is located in the old Fisk Mercantile Company building on Main Street ( formerly Bengston’s Department Store). The museum still boasts the original ceiling tiles from 1911. Here you will find artifacts, photographs and memorabilia of the history of the area.

The museum boasts two murals, one on the exterior wall of the museum painted by artist Alexandra Riddle which depicts Escalon’s rich heritage of agriculture, dairy, business, and railroad transportation. The second mural, a wondrous 33 feet long is high on the wall inside the museum. It shows dozens of photos from a hundred year span beginning with the founder of Escalon, John Wheeler Jones, circa 1850’s.
